starbucks

last year i was listening to Colin Cowherd, “The Herd,” on ESPN radio.  he usually talks about sports but he is at his best when he gives his views on the world.   and on this particular day he was giving his observation on “those people” who hang out at Starbucks all morning, day, night and read books and get into deep, intellectual conversations about their views on the war, religion or environment…  I totally agreed with the Herd, these people needed to do something with their lives.

BUT my views have changed.  Today where can you go to hang out with other people?  The bars? Shops? Movies?  Things in the country have been set up for people to be alone… and most of us feel comfortable with ourselves.  alone, making our own decisions, controlling are environment.

YES those people at Starbucks can be weird and a little off the norm, but i really think they might be doing their best to find people, and they have found their community at Starbucks.  probably not the best community of all time, but something better than being alone.  People know their name, know their drink, and usually stop to talk to them like they are cared for.

SO maybe i am saying go out of your comfort zone.  instead of two shots in your latte, try three or four.
